A Note on Web Design
Making a simple design look and work well is difficult. Making a simple design look and work well on a fairly complex service is even more difficult. Unlike with simpler services and sites there is a tension, which must be resolved. Mistakes can’t be covered up like they can on a site with more elements. The margin of error is smaller.
So nothing new under the sun. Making complex things...
Erik Jones - The Irison
Erik Jones’ work is cool. Check it out here.
Norwegian Night

Good Old Coin Game
I’ve been vasting some time here waiting for the Germany-Turkey game. Too bad these games are long gone.

Update 2: highscore: 68
Can you beat it?
Disqus Comment System
I installed the Disqus comment system on this blog last fall, but removed it after a while when I changed the design. Now it’s back up again. Seems like it has gotten better since last time and now it also has Seesmic integration, allowing Seesmic users to leave video comments. Pretty cool. Leave a comment and I might go crazy and reply with a video.
Qpsa - Business Strategies And Suggestions
I wrote a post the other day commenting on how little I admire the Norwgian startup, Qpsa, which ripped off Twitter and translated it to Norwegian. However, I also wrote that this is a valid business strategy, especially if the company ripping off the service is catering to a large market. The best example is probably the Samwer brothers, who built an eBay clone for Germany and later a Facebook...
Anti-Stealth and Service Development at NYLVI
There’s an interesting post up on the Path 101 blog about the benefits of being open for startups. Especially this caught my attention:
A startup can’t guarantee having the best product day one, but there’s no excuse for not trying to be the most knowledgeable and most insightful about the space and your audience. That doesn’t come from building in bunker removed from the light of day in...
100 Books - How's It going? - Pretty Bad
When I discovered in early 2008 that George Bush reads 100 books a year I decided that I should be able to do the same. So one of my goals for 2008 is to read 100 books. Well, it’s June and so far I have finished three books…
I just finished the third book on the plane today, which I got from a friend of mine last week, Inspired. It’s a collection of interviews with creative...
Back in Lillehammer, Norway
I’ll be staying at my parents’ place the coming week. Looking forward to a change in environment and hopefully some time to recharge my batteries.
If you’re looking for me I’m staying up in the left corner of this pic.
Qpsa Copycats?
A couple of Norwegian guys just ripped off Twitter. It’s a viable business strategy, but who gives a shit about viable business strategies. Use your energy to innovate. Life’s too short for boring stuff like this. At least change the birds or something.
Anyways. There is a lesson to learn from this. If you try to build something significant you have to be global from day one, protect...
Updates on the NYLVI Blog
There are a couple of new posts up on the NYLVI blog now. The first is an interview with Alberto from Wowsville Record Store in Kreuzberg, Berlin. It’s a great store and Alberto is a nice guy so if you’re in Berlin I recommend that you check it out.
The other post is a quick update on the work progress in NYLVI. We’re on schedule to launch the service in the end of July with the...
Vinyl Retail Comeback? →
chadsblog:
Retailers across the U.S. are giving vinyl records another try. Interesting little article over at CNN.
This article is interesting. A comment is up at the NYLVI blog. If things play out the way I expect them to the large retailers will have problems in the long run.
The Future of The Music Industry & NYLVI
I have a new post up on the NYLVI blog about the future of the music industry and how we see NYLVI fit into that future.
More Turntables Please
“There should be a turntable in every home”
Vinyl Records - NYLVI Blog
Some content is starting to show up on the Nylvi blog.
Music and Niches - Aiming for the Edges
This is something we think about:
“You already know we’re moving to a niche-driven culture, probably permanently”
“Now it’s like the target is huge, and you can aim for the edges, and hit something pretty easily - BUT - there’s a catch : someone cut out the middle”.

The Weird Economics of Information and Startups
There’s an interesting post up at the Union Square blog about the weired economics of information related to startups. I’m involved in a startup now and this is something we have been thinking about a lot the last few months. Especially after reading the Path 101 blog. We found the idea of being totally open interesting and I think the Union Square post describes pretty precisely how...
Goosh - Clean Google Interface
I’m a sucker for clean and simple interfaces. The goosh unix interface for Google is great.

Back in Berlin
(via. ffffound.com)
Just arrived back in Berlin from a few days in Barcelona. I had the pleasure of attending Primavera Sound on Friday, which is one of the best festivals I’ve been to so far. It’s perfectly located a litte bit outside down town at Forum, close to the sea and the lineup was great. I’ve posted videos of a few of the concerts I saw below. Especially The Sonics...
