Existing publishers have the power to change the form of what they do, increase the value, increase the speed, segment the audience, create communities, lead tribes, generate breakthroughs that make us gasp. They don’t have the power to demand that we pay more for the same stuff that others will sell for much less. Usually don’t quote/link to Seth Godin much because I assume everyone reads his stuff, but this post was killer. Publishers have a great opportunity to take the lessons learned from the music industry and turn things around. To be honest though I doubt many of them will do that. Color me skeptical on this one.
