Making a simple design look and work well is difficult. Making a simple design look and work well on a fairly complex service is even more difficult. Unlike with simpler services and sites there is a tension, which must be resolved. Mistakes can’t be covered up like they can on a site with more elements. The margin of error is smaller.
So nothing new under the sun. Making complex things look easy is always the most challenging.
